“Maria Sklodowska-Curie” Actions (MSCA)

“Maria Sklodowska-Curie” Actions (MSCA) is part of “Horizon 2020” programme is the EU Framework program aimed on research and innovation, and support employed in this area staff. 65 000 researchers will take benefits of international and intersectoral mobility, and receive attractive working conditions by 2020. In addition, “Maria Sklodowska-Curie” Actions – major EU program for structured PhD training, which will fund 25 000 master’s programs (PhD) in the next 7 years.

It is expected that by 2020, through “Maria Sklodowska-Curie”Actions 15 000 researchers will be able to start or continue their careers in Europe. Also encouraged travel to other parts of the world.

Maria Sklodowska-Curie foundation Proposals (MSCA)

The program is financed by the international and cross-sectoral mobility, which provides the best researches in any field of science. MSCA grants are available at all stages of a researcher’s career, from the candidates of sciences (PhD) to experienced researchers, by encouraging transnational and interdisciplinary mobility.

Four main types of co-operation on Maria Sklodowska-Curie foundation:

  • International Training Network (ITN) – supports innovative networks of training young researchers
  • Individual fellowships (IF) – the support of experienced researchers who provides mobility between countries, with the ability to work outside the academy.
  • Research and innovation for Students Exchange (Rise) – for international and interdisciplinary cooperation
  • Co-funding (Cofund) – is introduced for regional, national and international programs that fund research training or scholarships, including mobility to or from another country.

International Training Network (ITN)

Training networks bring together universities, research centers and companies from around the world to prepare a new generation of researchers, scientific knowledge financially encouraging business innovation and career prospects of researchers.

ITN proposals are introduced in three forms:

  • European Training Network (ETN):Joint research, carried out with minimum of three partners in academia and beyond participation. The aim is to develop the skills of researchers working on joint research projects.
  • Doctoral students in European Industrial Science (EID):The joint doctoral training includes at least one academic partner institution participation, which has the right to award doctoral degrees, and at least one university partner outside the academy (preference is given to working businesses). Each researcher in doctoral program, is jointly controlled by the heads of academic and extra-academic sector, where they have to spend at least 50% their time.
  • Joint European doctorate (EJD):The right to participate is for minimum three academic education institutions in order to obtain general, double or multinational degrees. Jointed control is mandatory for researchers and the overall governance structure.
  • Mandatory requirement for all three forms of cooperation:parties organizations should be from various Member or Associated States. Participation of other organizations all over the world, including those from non-academic sector, is upholding.

Individual Fellowships (IF)

There are two types of individual scholarships:

  • 1. Scholarship in EuropeHeld in the EU and associated countries to researchers who are going to Europe or moving within Europe. The program is designed to rebuilt research career after a break, such as parental leave, and also for researchers reintegration in Europe.
  • 2. Global GrantsSecondment Foundation based in the EU or the associated countries to researchers from outside Europe. Required return period – one year.

European and global scholarships may also include a trip for up to 3 or 6 months in other European organizations.

Rise – Research and innovation for Students Exchange

RISE – internships for scientific exchange in molecular pharmacology and ophthalmology biomarker section – new molecular retinal imaging technology (for a period of 9 months). Ophthalmology Center and biomarkers section are located in Basel, Switzerland. RISE program offers talented graduate students the opportunity to broaden their expertise and gain valuable work experience. During the internship your tasks are:

  • Collaboration with the team of chemists, engineers and biologists in the development of optical molecular imaging agents.
  • Evaluation the agent sensitivity image, specificity and toxicity using established in vitro and in vivo models of retinal diseases.
  • Analysis and demonstration the experimental results through publications and presentations, as well as information exchange with international staff.

More than 8,500 participants from approximately 90 countries work at Basel, one of the largest in Roche`s group.

Co-funding to regional, national and international programs.

COFUND offers additional funding to existing or new regional, national and international programs aimed at ensuring international and interdisciplinary research measurement training and career development. Doctoral programs as well as training programs for experienced researchers may be supported.

This line is designed for organizations that finance or supervise doctoral programs, scholarship programs for researchers.

Experienced scientists collaborating directly with the sponsoring organization, while doctoral students may find their job in a jointly-funded programs for EURAXESS.
